Login to the SMM2_ GUI `Overview->Enclosure Rear Overview` and see if the `Check Log LED` has a status of **On**. Then check the *Event log*. Configuration of the DW612S System Management Module 2 (SMM2_) --------------------------------------------------------------- First you must configure the SMM2_ MAC_address_ in your DHCP_ server, otherwise the SMM2_ will default to a static IP-address. The MAC_address_ is printed on the SMM2_ module board. You might ask Lenovo to provide a MAC_address_ list for your SMM2_ modules. Add the SMM2_ Ethernet MAC_address_ to the DHCP_ server, then go to the SMM2_ login page. The default administrator username may be *admin* or *USERID*, and the password may be the default *PASSW0RD* or something else configured by Lenovo. After logging in to the SMM2_ Web GUI click on the **Configuration** tab: * **Account Security**: Change these parameters and then click *Apply*: * *Password Complexity Rules* = 3 or as needed. * *Minimum password length* as needed. * *Minimum password reuse cycle* = 0 or as needed. * *Password expiration period (in days)* = 0. * *Minimum password change interval (in hours)* = 0. * **User account**: Change the login name (if desired), and/or add and enable your site's login username/password with **Administrator** priviledges. * **Network Configuration**: * Define the SMM2_'s DNS_ Hostname_ and Domain_name_. * You should leave IPv6_ as enabled for future management access. * Click on the **Advanced Settings** network ``eth0`` name and define: * **IPv4 method:** ``Obtain IP from DHCP`` * Check the box ``Use DHCP to obtain DNS server addresses`` * Click ``Apply`` (you will be logged out and have to login again) * Return to this page and check that the ``Preferred DNS Server`` IP-address is correct. * **NTP**: Set your site's NTP server and your Timezone. Click ``Apply`` and ``Sync Time Now``. * **Time settings:** Check date and time as obtained by the NTP settings. * In **SMTP** define E-mail alerts: * Sender Information (for example, admin@smm.). * Destination Email Addresses for alert recipients. * **SMTP (email) Server Settings**: * Set ``SMTP IP address`` (can be a DNS_ name!) and ``SMTP Port Number``. * If needed by your site, define the ``SMTP Authentication`` settings. * Test SMTP by ``Send Alert 1`` Note: Correct network configuration of DNS_ server is required! .. _DNS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System .. _Domain_name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name .. _Hostname: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostname .. _IPv6: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipv6 SMM2_ ipmitool commands ------------------------ The SMM2_ ipmi_command_list_ page lists IPMItool_ IPMI_ commands that can get or set SMM2_ parameters. Some example commands are:: ipmitool -I lanplus -H -U $IPMI_USER -P $IPMI_PASSWORD raw 0x32 .. _ipmi_command_list: https://pubs.lenovo.com/mgt_tools_smm2/ipmi_command_list .. _IPMI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_Platform_Management_Interface .. _IPMItool: https://github.com/ipmitool/ipmitool SMM2_ firmware updates ------------------------ * Locate the enclosure's *Serial Number* in the *System Information->Enclorure VPD* window. * Locate the SMM2_ firmware version in the *Summary->Enclosure Rear View* window. Using the Serial Number, In the Data_Center_Support_ page search for the Serial Number. Download firmware from the *Software&Drivers* menu. Download the *payload* firmware ``.rom`` file (for example, ``lnvgy_fw_smm2_umsm12v-1.20_anyos_noarch.rom``). After logging in to the SMM2_ Web Gui click on the *Configuration* tab and select *Firmware update*. Here you browse for the .rom file and upload it for the firmware update to start. **Important**: Make sure that ``Preserve Settings`` is selected. .. _Data_Center_Support: https://datacentersupport.lenovo.com/us/en SMM2_ module replacement ------------------------ If the SMM2_ module needs to be replaced, see the SMM2_replacement_ page. You should first make a SMM2_ data backup and restore using a FAT32 formatted USB_flash_drive_ via the GUI menu item `Configure->Backup and Restore Configuration`. Next go to the `System Information` section, select `Enclosure VPD` and perform data backup. In the GUI you may alternatively download the configuration to a file ``smmbackup.bk``. Note: You must configure the new SMM2_ MAC_address_ in your DHCP_ server, otherwise the SMM2_ will default to a static IP-address. The MAC_address_ is printed on the SMM2_ module board. The default administrator username is *USERID* with password *PASSW0RD*. It is required to change the password at first login (min. 10 chars). **IMPORTANT:** * Check that the firmware version is up to date, see the above section, and upgrade if necessary. * Check if old, state configuration data and serial number is in the replacement SMM2_ module. If so, reset to factory defaults: * Web GUI method: Go to `Configuration -> Reset to Default` and confirm. The process takes about 2 minutes, after which the module reboots and is ready for restore. * Physical button method: Press and hold the reset button for >4 seconds (less than 4 seconds only reboots). Holding for more than 4 seconds triggers a full reset to defaults. .. _SMM2_replacement: https://pubs.lenovo.com/dw612s_neptune_enclosure/smm_replacement .. _USB_flash_drive: https://pubs.lenovo.com/dw612s_neptune_enclosure/install_the_smm_usb_flash_drive .. _DHCP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Host_Configuration_Protocol .. _MAC_address: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address
